London independents run student display design competition

Seven leading London independent jewellery retailers are collaborating with students from Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design during Coutts London Jewellery Week.

Cox & Power, EC One, Hirsh, Joule, Marmalade, Nicholas James and Wave Contemporary Jewellery will use the initiative to promote platinum jewellery, which has continued to enjoy strong sales in the bridal market despite the financial downturn.
Platinum Guild International – which is promoting the scheme – has given the second-year product design students from Central St Martin’s a brief to design window displays based on platinum’s attributes of purity and strength as symbols of the unity of marriage.

The designs should show an understanding of the retailer they are designed for.
The seven winning window displays will be installed at the participating retailers on June 8.
