Platinum at heart of Dubai jewellery auction

Platinum jewellery will be at the heart of a groundbreaking auction to take place in Dubai at the end of this month.
Christie’s will hold its first ever auction of Art Deco-period jewellery in Dubai on April 28th in a sale that will also feature rare and collectable watches as well as pieces by contemporary designers.
Key lots include a platinum Patek Philippe watch, the 5971P, which will be only the second of its kind ever to be offered at auction.

Another impressive item set to demand a high price is a Glashütte platinum and diamond-set automatic flying tourbillon wristwatch, estimated to be worth $70,000.

David Warren, international director of Christie’s jewellery department and head of the Middle Eastern Jewellery department, said: “We will showcase unique pieces from the Art Deco period, an era of jewellery design that is highly sought after and collected throughout the world, alongside a strong section of talented Middle Eastern and international contemporary jewellery designers.

“This juxtaposition of two periods in jewellery design will illustrate the sheer diversity and momentum behind the jewelry craft in the last 100 years.”
