Platinum to star at Geneva auction

A platinum ring will be one of the important lots at an upcoming jewellery auction in Geneva.

The event will be held by Sotheby’s on May 11th at the Beau-Rivage Hotel, offering beautiful and rare jewellery.
One of the items is an oval brilliant-cut diamond set in a platinum ring, valued at between $1.3 million and $2 million. The diamond weighs 33.77 carats and is of G-colour and VS1 clarity.

Other jewellery items in the sale come from the collections of Lily Marinho and Antonietta Stella, while the lot expected to receive the most coverage is a 52.82 carat ring.

David Bennett, chairman for Europe & the Middle East, Sotheby’s International Jewellery department, said: “Our sales in Geneva this spring will bring together a superb assortment of top quality gemstones and an exceptional group of glamorous and sophisticated jewels of noble provenance.

“With these outstanding jewels we very much look forward to building on the success of our sales in 2009, sales which demonstrated just how strong, deep and international the jewellery market is today.”

A number of platinum jewellery items will also feature at an upcoming auction in Dubai, including a Patek Philippe watch.
