Cate Blanchett wowed observers at the Cannes Film Festival when she wore platinum jewellery to her film premiere.

The Australian actress opted for two platinum and diamond bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels as she stepped onto the red carpet for the first showing of ‘Robin Hood’ in the French city.

In the film, Blanchett appears as Lady Marion, alongside Russell Crowe, who plays the titular hero.

Other stars of the movie, which follows in the footsteps of countless versions of the legend of Robin Hood, include Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong and William Hurt and it is directed by Ridley Scott.

Blanchett has previously made her name by featuring in a wide range of films, including ‘The Gift’, ‘Veronica Guerin’ and the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.

However, she has probably attracted the most plaudits for her portrayals of Queen Elizabeth in ‘Elizabeth’ and ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’, receiving Oscar nominations on both occasions.

Platinum and diamond cluster earrings the best choice

Platinum and diamond cluster earrings could be the next great jewellery trend if the choices of Hollywood’s leading ladies are anything to go by.

Experts have noted that these platinum cluster earrings seem to be gaining in popularity, unsurprising since the precious metal can enhance the brilliance of diamonds.

Among the celebrities to have worn cluster earrings recently has been Jennifer Garner, considered to be one of the biggest stars in the movies at the moment, and one half of a Hollywood power couple with Ben Affleck.

Demi Moore wore platinum and diamond cluster earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels at the recent premiere of her film ‘The Joneses’ in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Anna Kendrick opted for platinum and diamond stud earrings by Neil Lane at the Costume Designers Guild Awards in February, completing her look with a platinum and diamond cocktail ring to match it.

Another trend recently spotted in Hollywood has been to wear platinum-colored dresses and gowns with platinum jewellery.

New platinum watch by A. Lange & Söhne.

Anyone looking to get their hands on an exclusive platinum watch may be interested to hear about a new timepiece from A. Lange & Sohne.

The German company has created a new model, the Richard Lange Referenzuhr, which uses the precious metal to make it stand out from the crowd.

Featuring a large balance wheel as well as winding trains and lever mechanisms that are visible through the sapphire crystal rear, the watches have a 40.5 millimeter case, giving it real presence.
Meanwhile, the watch is finished off with a platinum buckle and a black, hand-stitched crocodile strap.

Only 50 of these watches have been made, ensuring their collectable qualities and exclusivity and setting them above pink gold versions of the same model, of which 75 have been made.

As recent auctions have shown, platinum watches often gain value over time, while the precious metal remains a popular choice for horologists when it comes to creating limited edition timepieces.
